Herpes simplex virus oesophagits.

A 27-year-old patient with herpes simplex infection is suspected of having esophageal involvement. Which of the following conditions may be found concurrent with this viral infection?
  A.   Gastrointestinal (GI) blood loss
  B.   Deep linear ulcerations
  C.   Esophageal stricture
  D.   Occasional dysphagia

  1. Herpes esophagitis generally presents with odynophagia, heartburn, or fever. Endoscopically, the condition is characterized by diffuse friability and ulceration of the mucosa and presence of exudates, usually in the distal esophagus. Discrete circumscribed ulcers with raised edges are usual, but not deep linear ulcers. Bleeding and perforation may occur, and dysphagia is persistent.
